Liz K. Penuela (Born 1978, Bogotá Colombia) holds a BFA and MFA in Art Research and Production (Art, city and society) from the University of Barcelona, a postgraduate course on video at the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm and a Post-master in Art and Architecture: Resources 14, “A state of migration: Sweden” from the Royal Academy of Arts of Stockholm.
Liz is also an arts educator certified by the University of Barcelona in 2008. She currently lives and works as a middle school arts educator in Stockholm and as project director of Art Lab for All, a social organization founded by her since 2014. In her role as an arts educator, she has initiated various projects promoting access for, and solidarity with, refugees and new LGTBQ arrivals in Sweden.
Among the most prominent collective artistic projects in which she has participated are Propaganda, curated and directed by the artists Dorinel Marc, Tina Nykvist and Robert Brečević in Stockholm (2011); Performing recalcitrance, curated by Steffi Hessler with TV Mejan, streaming TV, run by the artist Donatella Bernardi in Stockholm (2012); The Normalcy Project, curated by Donatella Bernardi; Spa KKH by Clown project in Stockholm (2014); Mind the movements at Galleri Mejan, an art and architectural research Project in Stockholm (2015); as well as Min kropp mitt val and Domestic Systemic Pandemic, two collective feminist exhibitions created by Amnesty Latinamerika, Detroit Stockholm, Galleri Majkens (www.gallerimajkens.se), PeaceWorks Stockholm and La DeKoloniala in Stockholm (2020); During pandemian the virtual collective exhibition held by CEIIDA (Center for Research, Innovation, and Development of the Arts). in Mexico and curated by Viviana Hernandez; Voces Disidentes exhibition as part of Centrifug program in Konsthall C a collective show by @creartivista_KoleKtiva, Stockholm 2022.
