Origenes Mutantes: Cumbias des-bordadas

A video installation with live participation by Las Periféricas Colectiva Orígenes Mutantes, “Mutant Origins” speaks to the hybrid nature of cultural identity—memories that shift, heritages that reimagine themselves, roots that are not static but constantly evolving. The title itself suggests this duality. Cumbias des-bordadas “Overflowing Cumbias” refers to bodies, rhythms, and emotions that transgress boundaries. Together, these notions weave a narrative of transformation: one that is embodied, insurgent, and deeply alive. With this installation, Las Periféricas Colectiva proposes a hybrid space where video art, performance, dance, music, and embroidery intertwine. We invite the audience to immerse themselves in the imagery of the audiovisual collage, in the vibration of dancing bodies, and in rhythms that evoke deep and shared memories.

The experiences in the exhibition space include live music and a participatory online dance and embroidery workshop, guided by artists Liz K. Peñuela, Carmen Espinosa, and Carolina Brijaldo. Through this shared experience, we invite everyone to become part of this living tapestry of memory, migration, and resistance.

Collective altar

A collective altar developed as performance and an installation at Tegel Scenen garden as part of Pavillion C. Public Space Summerfestival in Stockholm.

How to be together resisting against the powers that want to keep us apart?
How to resist for our right to be equally entitled to inhabit the place where we live, to culturally survive?

By engaging into a collective mural journey and a mourning ritual and collective altar, our proposal wants to make our common struggles visible during the covid pandemic, the recent economic social crisis and also to question the different circumstances that divide us based on place of origin, colonialist nation/state divisions, class, race, gender, etc.
